The game screen

MU is from 2003 and its screen explains nothing on its own. This page is the map of what you're looking at.

The orbs in the corners

On the bottom bar, one at each end:

  • Red orb, on the left: life. At zero, you're dead.
  • Blue orb, on the right: mana. It's what pays for spells. A physical class barely uses it; a wizard lives on it.

Tucked against each orb, on the inside, there's a narrow strip:

  • The one on the left is the SD, the shield. It exists for all six classes, but it only works against another player — against monsters it just sits there. See combat.
  • The one on the right is the AG, the energy for skills.

The numbers appear inside the orbs: life on top and shield right below it, in the left one; mana on top and AG below, in the right one. The strip is too narrow to fit a number.

Running across the whole bar, at the bottom, is the experience bar, with the percentage in a small box at the right end.

The keys

They are not configurable. There is no key-remapping screen in this client — and the F1 help still shows the old Webzen list, which is incomplete. This is the real one:

Key Opens
I or V Inventory
C Character and stats
T Quests
P Party
G Guild
A Master tree (once you have it)
M Travel map
Tab Minimap
D Command window
U Window menu
F Friends list (from level 7)
Z Helper configuration
Home Turns the Helper on and off
X WCoin shop
S Your personal store (with the inventory open)
L Repair mode (level 50 or above)
K Extra inventory pages (with it open)
H Extra vault pages (with it open)
1 to 0 Uses the skill in that slot
Q W E R Uses the potion in that slot
Ctrl + key Puts the item or skill under the mouse into that slot
Alt (held) Shows the name of what's on the ground; Alt + click picks it up
Esc Closes the last window opened; with no window, opens the menu

Two traps: with the minimap open, only Tab works — no other key gets through. And while the cursor is inside a text box, no window key works.

The inventory

Opens with I or V.

The inventory is a grid, not a list. Each item takes up a rectangle of cells: a potion takes one cell, a big sword takes two by four. That's why the inventory fills up "without being full" — what's missing is space of the right shape, and tidying up fixes it.

On the left are the equipment slots: weapon, shield, helm, armor, pants, gloves, boots, wings and two rings/pendants. Drag the item onto its slot to wear it.

At the bottom is your zen and three buttons: MINHA LOJA, CONSERTAR and FECHAR.

The character window

Opens with C.

It's where the stats live, the points you haven't spent yet, and the numbers they produce — damage, defense, life, mana.

You can distribute them one click at a time, but with a lot of points the chat is faster: /s 500 puts five hundred into Strength at once. The full list is in commands.

A spent point doesn't come back. The only way to redo it is the Fruit, from the Chaos Machine. Each stat stops at 65,000.

The vault

The vault is the account's warehouse: what you store there doesn't take up inventory and isn't lost if your character dies.

It has no key. It only opens by talking to the Safety Guardian, the NPC in white armor:

Map Where he stands
Lorencia 147, 145 · and 146, 110
Devias 218, 63
Noria 172, 96
Elbeland 50, 229
Crywolf 113, 56
Arena 63, 49
Karutan 1 157, 127 · 123, 132 · 122, 96

Loren Market has no vault. It's the trading map and even so there's no Safety Guardian on it — whoever goes there to trade carries what they need in their bag.

Gold and Diamond accounts open the vault from anywhere with /abrirbau, without going back to town.

Taking an item out of the vault costs zen, and the price grows with your level: roughly your level squared divided by 25. At level 100 that's about 400 zen per piece; at 400, about 6,400. If you put a password on the vault, add twice your level.

Your store

You can sell to other players without negotiating anything: set up the store, put prices on things, and whoever walks past buys.

It opens with the MINHA LOJA button at the bottom of the inventory, or with the S key while the inventory is open. Inside: give the store a name, drag the pieces into the window, put a price on each one and click ABRIR A LOJA. While a name or a price is missing, the button stays locked and explains what's missing.

You can charge in zen, Jewel of Bless, Jewel of Soul, Jewel of Chaos or WCoin.

To leave the store selling after you log out, use the /offstore command — and it only works in Lorencia, Devias and Noria, inside the safe zone, with the store already open. See commands.

Repairing

A used item loses durability and, at zero, stops giving its bonus. There are two ways:

  • At the blacksmith. Talk to Hanzo the Blacksmith (Lorencia 116, 141 · or Crywolf 145, 14) and use the CONSERTAR tab. It shows the fee for each piece and has a CONSERTAR TUDO button with the total.
  • On your own, from level 50 up. Press L, or the CONSERTAR button in the inventory, and click the piece. Below level 50 the key does nothing.

The Helper also repairs on its own, if you tick the box.

The chat

Press Enter, type, press Enter again.

Anything starting with a slash is a command, not conversation: /move travels, /reset resets. The list is in commands.

The F2 to F9 keys filter what you read: F2 turns chat on and off, F3 whispers, F6 conversation only, F7 party only, F8 guild only.

How to read an item

Hover the mouse over it and the sheet appears. It's the most important thing to learn, because that's how you know whether something is worth it.

The colour of the name already tells you a lot:

Name colour What it is
White ordinary item
Yellow it's at +7 or above
Green it's excellent
Teal it's ancient, from an old set
Violet it has a socket

The lines on the sheet:

What appears What it means
+13 next to the name the item's level — it goes up to +15
Additional damage +8 (or Additional defense) came from Jewel of Life. Goes from +4 up to +28, four at a time
Excellent before the name it has an excellent option, and the lines below say which
Luck two lines: +25% chance on Jewel of Soul and +5% critical damage
Durability: [30/40] at zero, the item stops giving its bonus until repaired
A red line you don't meet the requirement yet — the next line says by how much

The Luck line about Jewel of Soul is worth nothing here. Soul already succeeds 100% of the time on this server, so there's no chance left to improve. What luck really gives you is the critical hit and the bonus in the Chaos Machine.

If the sheet shows a requirement in red, the item works while it's worn, but if you take it off you can't put it back until you reach the number.
